AGC of Utah Awards Best Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Projects in Utah

Salt Lake City, UT. February 8, 2023 – The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Utah hosted their annual awards breakfast on January 19, 2023, at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City. The event recognized outstanding individuals, companies, and projects in the architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. Each submission was voted on by industry leaders and winners were chosen based on the AGC of Utah values of Skill, Integrity, and Responsibility.

“These are the best of the best, committed to our industry and to the values of AGC which include: Skill, Integrity and Responsibility. The association is truly led by members who are all about moving our industry forward with honor,” said Troy Thompson, Chief Operations Officer at Big-D Companies and 2022 AGC Chairman of the Board.

Within the four (4) divisions, forty-five (45) prestigious awards were given out to member companies and individuals within the industry. These divisions include:

  • Building/Industrial Division Projects
  • Highway/Transportation/Utilities Infrastructure Division Projects
  • Small Contractor Division Projects
  • Individual/Company Awards

Richard J. Thorn, current President/CEO of the AGC of Utah, was nominated by the 2022 Board of Directors and awarded the Eric W. Ryberg Award. This award is the highest honor an individual can receive from the AGC of Utah. The award honors the legacy of Eric W. Ryberg, one of the original founders of AGC of Utah. Ryberg was known for his knowledge, skill, and service within the general contracting industry. The award is given to an individual who has shown outstanding service within the industry. Thorn has passionately served the A/E/C industry for 43-dedicated-years and will be retiring at the end of March this year.

“Throughout my career Rich has always been an advocate for our industry and willing to address any challenges that we had,” said Joey Gilbert, Vice President and incoming AGC of Utah President/CEO. “[He] is naturally gifted in bringing people together and that's the magic of AGC of Utah. Rich deserves all of our thanks and all our praise and congratulations.”
